Where should I locate my well?
Water wells need to be located a minimum distance from all points of possible contamination, such as septic and wastewater systems, petroleum tanks and animal holding areas. These areas could potentially leak contaminants into the groundwater system around your well. Any potential health risks should be considered before placing the well.
State or local codes may also dictate well and water services and placement. These codes could require the well be placed a certain amount of distance from utilities or property lines. Additionally, some geological formations will indicate the best areas in which to locate your future well. Call us schedule a service call and we can guide you through well placement and installation.
What are the best practices to maintain my well?
Newer wells should need little to no maintenance for many years. If you begin to notice that your pump is constantly running, your breaker tripping frequently or a change in the quality of water, then we recommend that you contact us to have your water looked at. A well will experience wear and tear on the system components that will ultimately cause damage. We suggest that you have your well inspected every five years, to prevent any small issues from turning into larger, more expensive issues.
My water has an eggy smell. What does this mean?
An eggy smell coming from your water is typically the result of bacteria in your well. This type of bacteria isn't harmful but the smell is unpleasant. If this happens to your water we recommend that you contact us and schedule a time for us to disinfect your well and flush your system.
Our water pressure isn't as high as it used to be. What's causing this?
Having issues with your water pressure could be caused by a variety of factors. It could be a small issue like a clogged screen, or it could be something more serious like the well drying up. It's difficult to assess the issue without taking a look at the well and the system, so contact us now for a free quote today!
My pump seems to be running a lot more than normal. What should I do?
If you begin to notice that your pump is running constantly, or if it's rapidly turning itself on and off these are indicators that there is an issue with your system. These types of problems are best solved by an experienced technician so give us a call to have us look at your system right away.
When does a well need to be abandoned?
If you switch to a new well or convert to city water and no longer need your old well, then it must be properly abandoned. If it stays open it can let harmful contaminants enter into the groundwater and potentially contaminate other wells in the surrounding area. Give us a call and we'll schedule a time to properly abandon your well.
